Ed Sheeran is offering up a track for the upcoming soundtrack for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug

The British singer-songwriter announced on Twitter that he wrote and recorded "I See Fire" specifically for the sequel, and thanked Peter Jackson and his team for the opportunity.  Sheeran added that he produced and played all of the instruments on the recording, with the exception of the cello.

The song is Ed's first solo release in over two years, since putting out his debut album.  It will be featured on the Hobbit soundtrack, out on December 10th, but not on his forthcoming solo sophomore effort.  The movie hits theaters on December 13th.
